Plagiarism

You have heard it in many classes since grade school, but do you really understand what it means? Plagiarism has serious consequences to your education and your future. The number one reason students get plagiarism violations is because they say they didn't know they were plagiarizing. It does not take away the Academic Integrity Violation, nor does it  help for the next time.

We go to school to learn, and proper writing in an academic setting (college) is using the correct formatting (MLA or APA) and giving credit to those who have spent months, years, and lives researching so information can be available to you. The least we can do is give them credit to their work (in text citation, and works cited or references page).

Healds' Policy

1. First Offense is an "F" on the paper.
2. Second is an "F" on the paper, possibly "F" in the class.
3. Third offense the student will Fail the class and face possible dismissal from college.

Types of Plagiarism

1. Submitting someone else's work as your own (a purchased paper, another students paper).
2. Contain significant portions of some source without altering the text (copy and paste).
3. Replacing and changing a few words in the content copied - leaving it essentially the same.
4. Multiple sources that have been fitted together in a paragraph or paper.
5. Borrow significant portion of someones (anyones, even your own) without proper citation. Threshold is 25% for Plagiarism.
6. Using a passage word for word and not using quotes, but has a works cited or references page.
7. Copied material from multiple sources without in-text citations and/or works cited page or references page.
8. Cites work to non existent or incorrect information.
9. Cites paper perfectly with in-text citations and works cited page, however none of the work is original.
10. Submission of a paper you have submitted in another class, without prior authorization from instructor.
